Under 21 Football and Hurling
u21Hurlers win over Setanta
U21C C'ship (2011) St Sylvesters 1-09 Setanta 0-06 Plucky display by U21s against a Setanta outfit with a number of county players on show. Key to the win was a very strong defensive display. Andrew Richardson back to his best in the middle and an interesting full forward line of Fionn Carney, Kevin O'Flynn and Shane O'Connor. Declan Ryan provided the picture and promised details. Thanks to John Keogh for the pics.
U21B footballers lose in the Championship
U21FC D St Sylvesters 1-06 Na Fianna 1-09 Playing with a cold December wind in the first half we trailed by 5 at half time to a more cohesive Fianna outfit. Conor McMahon was excellent at centre back and had good support from David Wall, Conot Fitzpatrick and Kevin Casey.
U21 hurlers win at St Marks
A one point win out in Springfield in Tallaght was a welcome surprise in the U21 Hurling C Championship as we were fielding without (almost) any of our Minors due to their Championship Final on Sunday. The lads did a great job assembling a team from players who are not doing much hurling these days. Gary Sweeney still looks the part and scored the winning point while I heard good reports about Andrew Richardson, Killian O'Flynn, Dylan Redmond who traveled from Galway, Fionn, Eamon Sullivan and more.
U21s lose late at Vincents
U21FC A S Vincents 2-10 St Sylvesters 0-11 We fell away playing into the wind in the second half after a very encouraging first half when we lead 0-9 to 0-4 at the break.
Tough loss for U21s and Minor Bs
U21C A Kilmacud Crokes 2-7 St Sylvesters 1-9 Minor F Div5 James Gaels 1-8 St Sylvesters 1-7 Pipped at the post in another absorbing U21 championship game at Balgriffen on Tuesday evening. a high ball into our square allowed to bounce and Crokes got a goal on full time to lead by two, we got one back but too little too late. Tough loss after we had fought our way into a two point lead and looked the better team only to have our pockets picked. I haven't seen a report from the Minor game in the Iveagh Grounds but a one point loss looks tough for this young team
Win and a loss U21Football Championship
U21A C'ship St Sylvesters 0-11 St Brigids 0-8 Our young side played brilliantly all through, leading from start to finish, & showing great hunger and will to win in a very tough, intense match. U21C C'ship Cr Ciaran 1-11 St Sylvesters 0-10 Sounds like a fine display for our second team, a fair achievement for any club.
Syls take the Paddy McCarthy Cup in style
Great tournament, great game, congratulations to Brendan and Ciaran and the McCarthys for making it happen, thanks and well done to Brigids, Fingallians, Na Fianna, Oliver Plunketts, Kickams, and Parnells for the great competition (pity the Vins could make it), and congratulations to Syls for taking the inaugural Paddy McCarthy Cup. At the medal presentation Brendan Carney, Ciaran Sweeney and club Chairman, Eddie O'Sullivan thanked Axa and the McCarthy family for sponsoring and the referees and club members for their support. Panner had us raise a glass to the memory of Paddy who would have been proud to be associated with the quality football we witnessed over the las few weeks. Syls and Parnells qualify for Paddy McCarthy Cup Final
After a few weeks of excellent U21 football Syls and Parnells qualified for the Final at Broomfield on Friday 6th August at 7.00PM, Syls beating a fine Ballymun 3-11 to 2-11 in a fast open game while Parnells had the narrowest margin over a somewhat unlucky Fingallians 1-5 to 1-4
U21 Tournament Update
We have reached the quarter final stage of the Paddy McCarthy U21 Football Tournament. Unfortunately St. Vincents have decided to pull out of the tournament at this late stage without playing a single game. This is very disappointing as there are other clubs that would have entered had we known in time.
Paddy McCarthy U21 Football Tournament Launched
Monday night saw the launch of a new Football Tournament for U21 players to be run in the memory of a great GAA man and St Sylvesters clubman, the late Paddy McCarthy. Brendan Carney launched the tournament with support from Chairman Eddie O'Sullivan and the McCarthy Family, paying tribute to Paddy's legacy to the GAA and to Sylvesters and looking forward to some keen competition between some of the best young players in North Dublin.
U21 footballers come up short against Crokes
U21 C'ship QF St Sylvesters 0-10 Kilmacud Crokes 0-12. A good crowd traveled to Garristown for the annual Brass Monkey Dublin U21 Football Championship. Two cracking teams went at it toe to toe for an hour, were level with a minute to go but the slicker Crokes finished it out with an excellent winner and another on the break. It would be wonderful to see this brand of football in decent conditions rather than in the depths of Winter.(although, fair dues to Garristown for a great facility)
