U14 Football and Hurling
U15 footballers win in the championship
The Under 15 footballers produced probably their best performance of the season when it mattered most in accounting for Lucan Sarsfields on a scoreline of 9-10 to 4-4 in the quarter-final of the C championship. Senan McNulty and Seán Foley were in great form and built on the platform established by centrefielders Eoin Cooney and Max Sheridan (on loan from the U14s) to guide Syls into the semi-finals.
Under 15s on a roll
The Under 15 footballers have turned their season around with back-to-back wins in the Division 5 (revised) league. On Tuesday evening at the Castle, Syls emerged 7-11 to 2-8 winners over Cuala with unquestionably the team’s best performance so far.
Under 15s get back on winning track
A cold and windy back pitch at Drimagh Castle CBS on the Long Mile Road proved to be a welcoming place for the Under 15s who got back on the winning trail on Sunday morning after a number of close calls in recent league matches. Syls led 4-1 to 3-1 at the break and accounted for St. James Gaels by 7-5 to 4-3 with a committed second-half performance
Malahide Community School Mixed Football Tournament
Following an initiative suggested at our last Juvenile Committee meeting, the inaugural Malahide Community School 2nd Year Mixed Football Championship was hosted by Syls in Broomfield on Wednesday morning. Organised by Panner and Philip Reid with the help of Dave Peyton in the School the event was a huge success with a full turn out in glorious weather, fun and good football and refreshments and a cup sponsored by Autobar Vending (Anthony Cooney).
16Bs win at Na Fianna
U16F Div7 Na Fianna 2-08 St Sylvesters 3-09 Good fighting display in a second half that when we trailed twice but fought back each time. Some smart defending from Conor Matthews in goals, Sean Quinn and Ronan Gaynor, James McKenna Byrne caught good ball in the middle when needed and Sean Foley and Sean ? in the corer contributed the scores late, Foley's goal a gem.
Juvenile Section looks back - looks forward
A very lively Juvenile AGM last night chaired by Ernie Brenner and ably abetted by Juv Sec Pat Hoyne looked back at very successful 2011 and forward to 2012. Pat and Ernie are staying on for 2012, Club Chairman Eddie Sullivan and Bar Manager Gary Penrose addressed the meeting and all representative positions were filled. Read Pat's report attached, it captures a very busy section and acknowledges all those that make it happen.
St Sylvesters Hurling Camp July 2011
Another successful Hurling Camp for u10 to u14with participants from St Sylvesters, Skerries Harps, O'Dwyers and Trinity Gales has just concluded. We were delighted to have two inter county players Shane Ryan (Nh Mearnog) and David O'Callaghan (St Marks) both who played in Croke Park v's Kilkenny in the Leinster final last Sunday, to deliver the camp.
Hurling Camp July 2011
Another successful Hurling Camp for u10 to u14with participants from St Sylvesters, Skerries Harps, O'Dwyers and Trinity Gales has just concluded. We were delighted to have two inter county players Shane Ryan (Nh Mearnog) and David O'Callaghan (St Marks) both who played in Croke Park v's Kilkenny in the Leinster final last Sunday, to deliver the camp. The emphasis was on skill development, short games with passing movements - all drills used by the Dublin squad at their training sessions. The skills competition at u10/11 was won by Mathew Dooley (Skerries) and Eoin Buckley, the prize was a signed Dublin jersey and hurley. The u12/13 was won by Eamonn McLoughney with Daniel Murphy a very close second, the prize was the No. 4 Kilkenny jersey from the Leinster final worn by Jackie Tyrell and swapped with Dotsy at the end of the game, thanks Dotsy. Thanks to Colm O'Conner for organising the camp, to Panner our club coach and to Stephen, Dereck and Kevin from our minor panel for helping out. Well done to all for a fun and enjoyable week.
Credit Union sponsor U14's
St Sylvester’s and Malahide Credit Union, two organisations that fulfill a very important role in the community of Malahide is a very appropriate match and so it was with much appreciation that our U14’s mentors took possession of a new set of jerseys. Indeed the Credit Union had sponsored our existing set of jerseys some 4 years ago.
Under 14’s compete in Feile on Saturday morning, 10.00 Park Ui Bhriain, Sandyford.
The location of all 3 of our group matches is in Parc Ui Bhriain (Naomh Olaf’s ground), starting at 10.30. If we qualify for the semi-final in the afternoon it will be either in Parc ui Bhriain again or in St. Maurs in Rush, depending on whether we qualify as group winners or runners-up. We will also need plenty of support for the players for what promises to be an enjoyable but demanding day, so bring along other family members if possible.
Under 14 Footballers win away to Naomh Olafs
U14 Football Div.5 St Sylvester’s 9-10 Naomh Olafs 4-7 Our U14’s recorded their first win of the season with a much improved display last Saturday. As with many of our games last season they showed that they are a very good footballing side and just sometimes lack the power needed against more physical sides. Despite missing 5 of our regular players including 3 late cry-offs the team still settled well from the beginning.
Under 14’s Lose to Clanna Gael in Close Match
U14 Football Div.5 St Sylvester’s 6-5 Clanna Gael 7-3 Our U14’s could consider themselves very unlucky on Saturday, losing this match to Clanna Gael by the smallest of margins. The match was only a few minutes old when we found ourselves 2 goals down. From the next kick-out, the dynamic Sean Foley picked up the ball round about the half way mark and started on a solo run that beat 5 or 6 defenders and ended with the ball in the back of the Clanna Gael net. Sean went on to get our next 2 scores, which were also goals but unfortunately Clanna Gael got 3 more goals themselves and at that stage the score line had taken on a peculiar imitation of a soccer match with the score at 5 goals to 3. Indeed if “The Ban” was still in place no doubt those involved may have feared standing accused of playing “foreign games”

U13 Footballers continue their winning ways
U13 Football Div.5 St Sylvester’s 2-12 Cu Chulainn (Lusk/Man O War) 0-7 Our season resumed with another good win at Bridgefield on Saturday afternoon and we have now won 6 from 10 but more importantly; after losing 3 of the first 4 matches, this team has now won 5 from 6 and that includes a 2 point loss to Westmanstown where we had had a late goal chance driven only inches wide.
Under 13’s Back to Winning Ways
U13 Football Div.5 Clanna Gael 5-3 St Sylvester’s 2-13 There was a bit of an end of term feel to this match and indeed with many of our players having already set sail for foreign parts on their summer holidays, we were very grateful to some of the under 12’s who made themselves available at short notice.

Under 13’s Narrowly Beaten by Westmanstown Gaels ( Mad Jaffa Cake Eaters)
U13 Football Div.5 St Sylvester’s 4-08 v Westmanstown Gaels 4-10 There was disappointment at Bridgefield on Saturday afternoon last when our under 13’s were beaten by just 2 points and were entitled to feel unlucky at the final whistle.
U13 footballers win over Olafs
U13 Football Div.5 St Sylvester’s 10-09 v Naomh Olaf 8-05 Our under 13’s recorded their 3rd win in a row to reinforce their renewed form of late and push their way up to the top section of the table. The truth is this was their least impressive performance over the past three weeks but the important thing is that they are now winning games consistently and adopting a can-win mentality.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
U13 footballers win over Clanna Gael
It’s hard to believe it, but due to weather cancellations this was the teams first home match of the season and the whole squad responded very well in this thoroughly entertaining game, which took place at the hallowed Bridgefield grounds on a nice fresh Saturday afternoon. It was particularly satisfying for mentors to have a squad of 20 to choose from and all players in the squad were involved for lengthy periods and played their part in a good solid win
