U14 hurlers pipped in Feile Semi Finals
After their heroics in the football just a few weeks ago, the U14s had another splendid day out in the Dublin Feile na nGael Hurling tournament on Saturday, just pipped by the favourites (and eventual winners) Whitehall Gaels after extra time in the semi final down at Cuala. I am promised pictures and a story from Joan or John. We still have the All Ireland Feile to look forward to aswe are hosting in Dublin this year.
U14 Dublin Development
Fallout from our recent good showing in the Football Feile was three more Syls players being invited onto the Dublin Development squad . . .well done lads . . . Christian Doyle, Mark Mccormack, Bryn Redmond, David Maloney, Luke Troy, Eoin Cooney, Alex Wright, Daniel Murphy
Oliver Plunketts win in Croke Park
Congratulations to St Oliver Plunketts NS on winning the Cumann na mBunscoil Senior Hurling Shield Final at Croke Park today, they defeated Scoil Mobhi of Glasnevin 2-8 to 1-5. Earlier in the campaign todays opposition had run out comfortable 5 point victors in Bridgefield, however Mr Fortune had tuned this squad to the max and with Croke Park inspiring them they led from start to finish.
Great show in Feile by our U14s
Although we didn't win in the end we went close in reaching our first Feile na nÓg Football Final since 2005 and only bowed out to a very fine St Brigids outfit. The lads were particularly pleased with our group win over Na Fianna where we played the best football this team have ever produced. We had to fight really hard to overcome Thomas Davis with a late Mark McCormack goal on Sunday morning and that may have proved our undoing in the final. We gave up an early goal against Brigids in the final in Parnell, fought out way back to 0-4 to 1-1 but the effort and the big field proved too much as Brigids dominated the second half to win well in the end.
Syls drawn in 2A for All Ireland Feile na nGael
Syls families will host the Laois representatives in the All Ireland Feile na nGael and we are drawn in group 2A along with Laois, Castlenock and Westmeath. We have offered to host the group in Malahide but have not heard yet if that will happen - would be a nice hurling weekend for the town.
U14 footballers hard win in the Cup
Our u14 football team won their 2nd game in the U14 Football Cup against a hard working Erins Isle team in Bridgefield. The team is a mixture of our two u14 teams and because both path panels train together the players work hard for each other resulting in some fine scores and in particular a number of well taken goals. Although there was only a goal between the teams with 10 mins to play, we defended well with Jack Hussey and Luke Cassidy putting in a lot of hardwork. Our forwards responded with some goods scores to ensure a win for Syls..
U14 hurlers great comeback
U14H Div2 St Sylvesters 3-16 St Oliver Plunkets ER 5-07 A storming finish producing five points without reply saw the U14 win a game that seemed to be running away at one stage.
U14s leave it too late
U14F Div1 St Sylvesters St Johns Balinteer WE ere two points up at the break against the wind and, by all accounts, looking the stronger team. Nobody told Johns, however, who came out in the second half playing some fabulous football and knocking up 3-02 without reply before we got ourselves going again.
The future is Blue
Daniel Murphy , Eoin Cooney and Mikey Meaney who all played a major part in North Dublin Colleges winning the under 14 Leinster Colleges " A " final in Kinnegad this week . The North Dublin squad beat combined Offaly Colleges in the final. A great achievement by the colleges and the thriving Dublin Hurling and it's great that Syls and Scoil Iosa are part of it.
Syls U14s went paintballing
Syls U14s went paintballing in Louth on Sunday, both A and B team players had a great day. We then returned to the club and treated the players to Pizza. Thanks to the parents that helped with the transport.
Paul Clarke coaching at Syls
Paul Clarke, All Ireland Medal winner with Dublin, former Dublin Senior Football team coach and now coaching our senior football team delivered a tackling session for our u14 football squads last night. We had 28 players at training , the lads really enjoyed it and were hanging on to Paul's every word. I would like to thank Paul for his help and expertise. Ciaran
U12 and U14 hurlers entertain Bishopstown from Cork
Bridgefield was a hive of hurling activity on Sunday morning as Bishopstown, in Dublin to watch Cork at Croke Park, had over 40 young hurlers.
U13s and U14s get together for Cup football
With it being a hurling week-end and our 14 football team getting a bye in the first round of the U14 Football Cup , Syls u13s and u14s footballers played a challenge match in The Castle on Saturday afternoon. We had about 45 players and all players got a decent run. This will prepare our u14s for the cup competition and also help to integrate the both u14s football teams and u13 footballers for the Feile. Better than any training.
U14 hurlers win well at Judes
U14H Div2 St Judes 0-06 St Sylvesters 4-12 Always good to start the league with a win but we were surprised at the margin over at Tymon against a Judes team that have beaten us in recent years.
Tough loss U14A
U14 Div1 We lost by a few points to Clontarf in Bridgefield in a fine looking game that went from end to end with good scores on both sides. This difference I suppose was a couple of goals for Clontarf, one from a penalty, in the second half against some real quality points from the Syls lads. I think we will be a little disappointed, might have won it.
Juvenile Section looks back - looks forward
A very lively Juvenile AGM last night chaired by Ernie Brenner and ably abetted by Juv Sec Pat Hoyne looked back at very successful 2011 and forward to 2012. Pat and Ernie are staying on for 2012, Club Chairman Eddie Sullivan and Bar Manager Gary Penrose addressed the meeting and all representative positions were filled. Read Pat's report attached, it captures a very busy section and acknowledges all those that make it happen.
Syls players in Dublin U13 win over Waterford
Dublin under 13 hurlers who travelled to Waterford on Saturday last. The Dubs won by two points after a terrific match.. Representing St Sylvesters were Daniel Murphy , Eamonn McLoughney ,Mikey Meaney and Eoin Cooney.
U13 hurlers finish strong
U13H Div2 St Sylvesters 7-10 St Judes 2-06 Third in Div2 is a good showing for our u13s after a very strong second ha;f against Judes. It didn't look so good at half time with Judes gaining some dominence in the second quarter but we came out very strong in the second half.
U13s lose to strong St Brigids
U13 Football – Division 1 Sylvesters 2-06 Brigids 4-11. A game of two halves, dominated by a strong breeze blowing into the Bridgefield car park goals. In their last outing Brigids had beaten the second placed team in Division one by 19pts. Until the last 10 minutes the match had stayed really close until Brigid’s superior physique resulted in a number of late goals from their two tearaway midfielders.
Ardara U12’S Visit to Malahide – Saturday August 27th
As we all know, Syl’s U12’s have made the annual trip to Ardara for the past 10 years. This year, for only the second occasion I believe, we were able to return their hospitality. Ardara arrived with 130 people including almost 40 players. Having taken in Croke Park in early afternoon, they arrived to us at 4 o’clock – thanks to the club, we were able to offer them the Castle dressing rooms which was a big bonus. Pictures from John McConnell and Hugh Daly - has anyone a picture of the second Ardara team?
St Sylvesters Hurling Camp July 2011
Another successful Hurling Camp for u10 to u14with participants from St Sylvesters, Skerries Harps, O'Dwyers and Trinity Gales has just concluded. We were delighted to have two inter county players Shane Ryan (Nh Mearnog) and David O'Callaghan (St Marks) both who played in Croke Park v's Kilkenny in the Leinster final last Sunday, to deliver the camp.
U13s lose at the death to Lucan
Lads were behind by 4 points at half time playing against a stiff breeze, so things looked very promising for the 2nd half. We were camped on their 21 for most of the 2nd half but didn’t manage to convert it to scores. Game was level in injury time when we got caught out by a late late injury time goal , Anthony was not too pleased ( see photo !) Great game to watch, super skills on display by both teams. U13s on again tonight, definitely worth a visit. Final Score 4-7 to 4-4
Oliver Plunkets in Fingal Schools Final
St Oliver Plunkett National School Senior Boys took on a strong St Mary's of Ashbourne in the Fingal Schools League Premier Division final in Parnell Park on Tuesday . There is nothing quite like the schools finals in Parnell Park in May and the 400 odd screaming Malahide kids been shepherded by some stressed teachers and a bunch of nervous parents all decked out in the school colours ensured the excitement and noise level was like an All Ireland Final. The bus loads of travelling supporters left the school early with high hopes that this was going to be their year as they have fallen at the final hurdle a few times before in recent years but unfortunately Malahide lost out again in a close encounter.
U13A’s overcome Kilmacud in Bridgefield
The U13A moved up to third place in Division 1 following their voctory over Kilmacud on May 10th 2011. The final score flattered Sylvesters somewhat as the match was close until early in the second half and it was only late in the game they stretched their lead.
U13B footballers win in a cracker
U13F Div 5 Syls B 5-10 St Judes B 6-6 The u13B team made the long journey to Tymon Park in Templeogue on Tuesday night worth it with a great win in a very tight game. The game was a high scoring one with Syls getting out of the blocks fast and clocking up some great early points. The midfield of Jack Butler and Luke Cassidy in particular were working hard - looking for the ball and using it intelligently.
Syls U13’s just shade it
Syls played Cuala in their Division 1 Football league match in Glenageary on Saturday. The match went right to the wire but in the end Syls ability to score goals allowed them to get over the line. Cuala opened the scoring, and held the lead until the break – half time score Cuala 1-06, Sylvesters 0-06.
U13B against Oldtown
John Maughan's charges acquited themselves very well but lost by a couple of points to a smart looking Oldtown
U13 hurlers hold out against Faughs
U13H Div2 St Sylvesters 3-5 Faughs 3-4 One point win in an excellent U13 game at Bridgefield on a lovely Saturday afternoon.Faughs started the stronger and were 2-1 up before we woke up. With Daniel Murphy and Eamon McLoughney taking over in the middle we dominated for the next 30-40 minutes but Faughs were a tough nut to crack and we never got more than a few points ahead but a few late points from Eoin Cooney and and Bryn when they finally beat Sean Drum for their third goal we still had a point to spare. Jamie Kenneddy and Mike Meaney caught my eye in defense. Two out of two for these lads.
