U11 Football and Hurling
2 Wins and a narrow defeat for U 12 football teams this weekend
The U12 Footballers were out in force again this weekend with 3 teams taking to the field on Saturday afternoon. First up were the A team who were up against a very determined Oliver Plunketts team in Broomfield. It was a closely fought match all the way through and Syls narrowed the lead with only two minutes to go to a single point after Liam Shalloe found the net.
U12s lose norrowly to Vincents
U12F Div1 St Sylvesters 3-06 St Vincents 3-09 This was a keenly contested game with both sides giving 100 per cent. Despite missing a number of players the team that was picked did the club proud. This was the first time our U12's came off a pitch and knew that the game of Gaelic football is not just about fancy footwork. There was some hard but fair challenges from both sides with some fine fielding from Alan Byrne, Josh Reinhardt and Harry Barnes.

Best wishes to Mr. Fortune and the senior hurlers of St Oliver Plunketts NS who will be contesting the Cumann na mBunscoil Senior Hurling Shield Final in Croke Park on Tuesday, throw in 10.30. Made up of a panel of 20 hurlers, all who play for Syls and many who are eligible for this competition for the next 2 years, they have worked hard over the last few months and their efforts are being rewarded with a run out in Headquarters.
st sylvesters v aghamore gaa club co.mayo
On Sunday 29th april St Sylvesters welcomed aghamore gaa club, yes i hear you say aghamore!!!!even google found this hard to find. Aghamore is a small town in Co.Mayo with a proud history behind it,and even once graced the skills of our own infamous Sir John Cox(on speaking to the men involved in aghamore they say he was a mighty player and the legend is still talked about).
Cullen talent spotting our U12s
U12s get the league campaign of to a flying start with 3 wins and a certain Dublin captain keeping an eye on proceedings. Apologies for late report. Syls U12 Football teams got off to a flying start in their respective league campaigns across 3 teams last Saturday week. (Thanks to John McCormack for the report)
U12 footballers at 'Stade de Bridgefild'
On a Sunny evening in the 'stade de Bridgefild' St Sylvester's U12's took on St Finians. The first 10 mins was tight and then flood gates opened. 3 goals and 2 points scored by midfield wizard Liam 'Messi' shalloe and a solid up and down the field performance by Sean 'the engine' O'Donnell meant that on this day Syls would be hard to beat.
U12 hurlers flying high
Great win today for Syls u12A hurling team. Came back from 3-6 to 1-4 down with 10min to go to record an amazing last puck of the game win 3-7 to 3-6 over a strong Kilmacud Crokes team. This team is now unbeaten in competitive matches since the end of the 2010 season and are now poised for a high seeding in this year's League. Well done to all the lads, their coaches and mentors. Eugene
U12 and U14 hurlers entertain Bishopstown from Cork
Bridgefield was a hive of hurling activity on Sunday morning as Bishopstown, in Dublin to watch Cork at Croke Park, had over 40 young hurlers.
U12 footballers win two of three
Great turnout again this week for the U12 Footballers as 39 players making up 3 teams met at 11 this morning for a further weekend of grading at this level.
U12 hurlers rally for a great draw
U12H St Sylvesters 3-08 Craobh Ciaran 4-05 After trailing badly at half time the U12s put in a great second half to draw against an excellent Craobh Ciaran team who exhibited some great skills themselves. Liam óg Foley was dispatched to full forward and contributed two or three goals, the last one a top drawer volley (His father must have promised to let him drive the big tractor).
Syls U12 Football - Update
Well done to everyone for a great afternoons football last Saturday. We fielded 38 players across the 3 teams so it was great and to see all the lads getting full matches which is the main objective this year.It is important for their development to get as much "game time" as possible and of course they really enjoy being on the field and playing with their mates.
Juvenile Section looks back - looks forward
A very lively Juvenile AGM last night chaired by Ernie Brenner and ably abetted by Juv Sec Pat Hoyne looked back at very successful 2011 and forward to 2012. Pat and Ernie are staying on for 2012, Club Chairman Eddie Sullivan and Bar Manager Gary Penrose addressed the meeting and all representative positions were filled. Read Pat's report attached, it captures a very busy section and acknowledges all those that make it happen.
Rules and league information for U12 Football 2012
A few documents from John explaining the rules, fixtures and initial gradings for U12 football for 2012 - hope you have a great season lads.
St Sylvesters U11's begin challenge matches in preparation for next Season
St Sylvesters U11's had a marvellous turnout last Saturday when 36 players togged out for two matches vs Raheny U11's at Bridgefield. After discussions amongst mentors in both camps we decided to expand the pitches and host two 15- a-side matches as all these lads move to 13-a-side next season and to give as many players an opportunity to get as much game time as possible.
U11 hurlers unbeaten in 2011

U11 Hurlers in Camaint Div1
The boys lost in the Div1 Shield Semi Final at Parnell Park on Saturday and they were not too pleased but it is still a great achievement to hurl at this level. Well done to all the boys and to Eugene Larkin, Dave Shaloe and Paudi Duffy.

Hurling Camp July 2011
Another successful Hurling Camp for u10 to u14with participants from St Sylvesters, Skerries Harps, O'Dwyers and Trinity Gales has just concluded. We were delighted to have two inter county players Shane Ryan (Nh Mearnog) and David O'Callaghan (St Marks) both who played in Croke Park v's Kilkenny in the Leinster final last Sunday, to deliver the camp. The emphasis was on skill development, short games with passing movements - all drills used by the Dublin squad at their training sessions. The skills competition at u10/11 was won by Mathew Dooley (Skerries) and Eoin Buckley, the prize was a signed Dublin jersey and hurley. The u12/13 was won by Eamonn McLoughney with Daniel Murphy a very close second, the prize was the No. 4 Kilkenny jersey from the Leinster final worn by Jackie Tyrell and swapped with Dotsy at the end of the game, thanks Dotsy. Thanks to Colm O'Conner for organising the camp, to Panner our club coach and to Stephen, Dereck and Kevin from our minor panel for helping out. Well done to all for a fun and enjoyable week.
Syls represent Malahide in the Community Games U11 Hurling
We travelled to Ballyboden on Wednesday 18th May to take part in the Dublin Community Games Hurling which is played at U11 level. We travelled with confidence having a strong team who have trained well over the last weeks however due to a combination of things we just didn’t have the luck on the night. The 15 a side matches were played on narrow all weather pitches which mean our inclinations to pick and hurl cost us in our opening game. We started against the local team Knocklyon who are backboned by Ballyboden, we led for most of the game but were defeated by a late, late goal. This was a sickening blow for many of the players who lost out to the same team last week in football.
Oliver Plunkets in Fingal Schools Final
St Oliver Plunkett National School Senior Boys took on a strong St Mary's of Ashbourne in the Fingal Schools League Premier Division final in Parnell Park on Tuesday . There is nothing quite like the schools finals in Parnell Park in May and the 400 odd screaming Malahide kids been shepherded by some stressed teachers and a bunch of nervous parents all decked out in the school colours ensured the excitement and noise level was like an All Ireland Final. The bus loads of travelling supporters left the school early with high hopes that this was going to be their year as they have fallen at the final hurdle a few times before in recent years but unfortunately Malahide lost out again in a close encounter.
