U14 Girls – Div 3 League Champions

After many years of looking after Boys teams, I took my first steps at the beginning of this season into the ‘scary’ world of Girls Gaelic football. I jest of course. At the beginning of this season I took over as Manager of the Girls u14 football squad. The squad only has 7 actual u14 players but thanks to the help of the u13 squad we had a group of 18 or so extremely talented footballers. Once I got over the shock of the chitter chatter (my goodness girls do like to talk) we embarked on our journey together. The season started really well with comfortable victories over Na Dubhgall, St Finians and Parnells. Next up were a home and away fixture versus St Peregrines and these 2 games were to prove to be our stiffest test of the season.

UNDER 13 GIRLS FOOTBALL

Syls U13 Girls continued the good league performance with an impressive away against Ballinteer St Johns. This win secures Syls position in the Top 4 playoffs in a very strong Division 1 league. The play-offs will be very tough against the cream of Dublin U13 football, Foxrock / Cabinteely, Ballyboden and Kilmacud but they deserve the opportunity. The girls have performed brilliantly since gaining promotion last year and this dedicated squad continue to progress in the right way.

Emily Rheinisch played her first game for Syls U16 girls away to O'Toole's on Wednesday night 23rd March 2011.Emily comes from a family steeped in Dublin GAA particularly hurling with Craobh Chiaráin and Dublin. She has played against Syls every season since U10 with Scoil Uí Connaill. They do not have an U16 team this year and she has got permission from the County Board to guest with Syls U16 this year. She is a member of the Dublin U16 panel and has come to Malahide at a time when Syls are badly in need of a regular full forward.

We also had great wins at U 11 & U 12 with both teams reachinng championship finals. Our u16 team had a great run this year also but lost out in the Championship to Cula in the U16 semi final. It was a very good achivement to get this far considering that there was only 2 under 16 players playing in the game.

UNDER 12 GIRLS GOING WELL

The U12 Girls football team continued its 100% start to the season with a hard fought win over St Brigids on Sunday evening in Broomfield. St Brigids started the game brightly with a couple of points before Syls got into gear with a couple of well taken goals. The second half was very tight with Syls being the stronger team but we found it hard to shake of a determined St Brigids team. As has been the case in all our games so far, we finished stronger and ended up with a five point win. This was a fine performance from a very committed panel of players who play an attractive brand of football and whose season is progressing nicely.

Syls U/14 Girls made it wo wins from 3 in their U/14 league game on Sunday afternoon away to Round Towers Lusk/St Margarets. The match hero was Lisa Murphy and what a blinding game she had scoring all but one point, 3-5, of the syls scores. Lisa has played the last few games in goals and her performance out-field on the half forward line was nothing short of spectacular.

Under 12 Girls Start Well.

The U12 Girls started their league campaign in a chilly Broomfield on Sunday evening with a hard fought but deserved win against Skerries Harps. Syls were stronger in the first half but only were a point up at the break having missed some good chances. The second half was very even but some great defending by our backs kept Skerries out and gave us the opportunity to move forward late in the game and run out four point winners.

Under 13 Girls Finish League in Style

U/13 Girls - St Brigids 1-13 St Sylvesters 3-7 The U/13 girls finished their league campaign on Sunday last with a very credible draw against St Brigids in Russell Park. St Brigids needed victory to secure a league play-off with St Perigrines, but the Syls girls destroyed their plans with a fantastic display. Missing 8 regular players from the squad, the team were ably supported by some of the up and coming stars from Shane Cowley's U/11 team and they did themselves proud
