Senior, intermediate and Junior Football
Juniors qualify for B Championship Semi Final
JFC B St Sylvesters 2-11 Wanderers 1-04 A brilliant second half performance where our young team simply had too much mobility after a very tight first half. At one stage we were 4 points to 1 down but a good goal by Andrew Berry settled our nerves and we trailed by a point at the half. Homer and Graham Morris cleaned up in the backline, Dominic and Kevin Lynnott were on top in the middle and the speed of Killian O'Flynn, Garreth McGrath and Barry Cowley was too much for Wanderers up front. Semi Final v St James Gaels in Sept.
Senior footballers lose to Templeogue SS
SFC R1 Templeogue Synge St 1-15 St Sylvesters 2-09 A very disappointing loss in the first round of the championship after a very hot and cold display. We had started well, took a point when a goal was on, a few points then a goal from Darren off a Daly pass and it looked good for us. As usual, not many games are won in the first ten minutes and so it proved yet again.
Junior Footballers qualify for Quarter Final
JFC B St Sylvesters 2-05 Ballymun Kickams 1-06 I only saw the last few minutes - a smashing goal by Andrew Berry to put us a point ahead, a couple of missed frees and a Messi style point by a 'looking good' Barry Cowley. A great win in front aof a good crowd. Quarter Final next Sunday at Broomfield 11.00am against Wanderers or ? Thanks to Killian K for the pictures.
Dublin U21 win All Ireland
Another great day for the Dubs and Syls players Gary Sweeney and Fionn Carney defeating a fine Roscommon team who led up to 50 minutes but changes in the Dublin team saw us take over in the last 10 to win by seven points. Gary Sweeney had another fine game at centre forward (Dessie Dolan likened him to Declan Sullivan the way he set up our attack). Congratulations also to Nmh Marnóg players Michael Gibbs and team captain Kevin O'Brien.
Inters progress (Ducky come back, all is forgiven)
IFC St Sylvesters 2-09 Erins Isles 0-06 Comprehensive in the end but it looked a little dodgy with 15 minutes remaining when we led by a single point and had not scored in the second half. We finally found our scoring boots when a free from Alan Foy was fielded by the lively Fionn Cahill and finished to the net by Sean Byrne just as he was introduced to the action.
Daly goal seals win for seniors
AFL1 St Sylvesters 1-09 Parnells 1-06 No messing about , this was a tight tough league game against a very strong Parnells and we stood up to it well for a very encouraging win. Maybe I haven't seen enough senior football recently but I thought the pace and intensity were near championship level, pretty much every ball was keenly contested and there were some smashing scores from both sides. We led five point to four at half time after a pretty even first half although we did spurn a good goal chance just at the break.
Junior A team look strong at Plunkets
JFC B St Oliver Plunkets ER 0-08 St Sylvesters 0-14 Strong impressive display in the B Championship away to Plunketts, we led from start to finish, always in control without killing off the game. Defensively we were solid, Graham Morris and Falvey protecting Ciaran Murray fairly well, Dominic McDonnell and Kevin Lynnott showing a bit of class around the middle, Keith Slye hit three frees off the ground from outside the 45, very impressive . . .
Junior Bs disappoining exit from C C'ship
JFC C St Sylvesters 0-5 Lucan Sarsfield 2-12 We ended up losing by a big margin but, to be fair, we were well in contention for about 50 minutes. We started well, made a lot of scoring opportunities, but did'nt take enough of our chances and Lucan came back stronger to lead five points to four at the break. The second half proved more difficult. We did make some chances but, except for a nice point by Karl Hand, we continued to miss the posts or take the wrong options.
Seniors win again in the league
AFL1 St Judes 0-12 St Sylvesters 1-11 Another good win away to Judes, another good day for Ross and Shane in the middle of the field, Fionn (after a nice rest with the Dublin U21s) did a good job on Dubs star Kevin McMeniman, Nigel continuing his good form with 1-3, Aido continuing his recovery with a few points, Darren's first outing with us this year . . . team is starting to take shape.
Sweeney leads Dublin U21 attack in Leinster Final Victory
DUBLIN 1-16 LOUTH 0-8 A Ciaran Kilkenny-inspired Dublin under-21 side captured the Cadbury Leinster U21FC in emphatic fashion in Pairc Tailteann, Navan on Wednesday.
Inters big win at Margarets
AFL3 St Margarets 1-04 St Sylvesters 1-16 We led by eight points to nil at one stage in the first half with Skinny Byrne and Mark Reilly completely dominating the middle and Keith, John Peacock and Damien sealing off the half line. Margarets finally scored a point followed by a classy breakaway goal and another point and it looked like game on with us facing a second half wind.
Juniors win at Stars of Erin
AFL7 Stars 1-07 Syls 5-13Our junior 3 team make the long trip to Glencullen in the Dublin mountains to record an impressive won to maintain their 100% start in the league. It was an all round good team performance with the backs getting on top throughout and forwards converting the majority of scoring chances.
Big win for seniors over Thos Davis
AFL1 St Sylvesters 2-18 Thos Davis 0-07 We don't often win over Davis so this was a surprisingly big win and maybe our team is starting to take shape. Micháel hit 7 and Nigel 5 points and by all accounts a lot of leadership. Unfortunately Dave Galvin and John Murphy both missed the game with long term injuries and we wish them a speedy recovery.

Three losses in Cup football
The Inters had a two point loss in a 'robust' game at Man of War, the Juniors by a single point over at Fingallians while the Junior Bs lost by 3-07 to 1-06 at Clontarf after being even for most of the game. (Sorry lads, I had robbed Derek of a well worked goal in the JuniorB game)
Sweeney leads Dublin attack
Gary is picked at centre forward for the Leinster U21 semi-final against Westmeath in Portlaois on Wednesday 7.30pm . . . best of luck lads.
Two wins in Junior Leagues
Our good start to the season in junior football continued with two impressive wins. The AFL6 team travelled to Tallaght for a very competitive 2 point win over Thos Davis while the AFL9 team were six point winners over Oliver Plunketts scoring some wonderful points in a 0-14 to 1-07 win and only giving up the goal and few points very late.
Inters let it slip
AFL3 St Sylvesters lost by a point to St Finnians Swords after leading for most of the game but mostly by two or three. Finnians upped the pace in the last 10 minutes and scored a lovely punched goal off a crossed ball to take the lead late giving us little time to respond.
Senior win in the league
AFL1 St Vincents 1-07 St Sylvesters 2-09 The goals won this one, a penalty by Gavin after good play by Micháel and a classy finish by Fionn Cahill in a first half where we threatened to run away with the game (Micháel hit the post after Ross set him up). We backed off a little in the second half without ever looking troubled. A nice late point from Eoin Boyne cheered me, I love the see the half backs supporting the forwards.
Syls and Vincents moved to 2.00pm
Surely at my prompting . . .the Senior game v Vincents has been moved to 2.00pm . . .. guess we've no excuse but to get back and support the inters at 4.15pm in Broomfield.

Football roundup
The seniors got back on the winning trail with a fine one point win over a strong Ballymun Kickams at Broomfield. We were six points to nothing down early but fought our way back to a 2-08 to 0-13 win. The Inters suffered their first defeat of the year away to Castlenock but the Junior As had a great win away to Parnells to preserve their unbeaten run and great start t 2012 - Shane and Declan are certainly doing a good job in training both junior squads as the Bs also had a good draw against Plunkets.
Junior Bs snatch a draw
Sheridan Cup St Sylvesters 1-13 St Oliver Plunkets ER 2-10 The Bs were the comeback kids again this week, trailing by 6 with about 15 minutes to play, a goal and a point from Conor Meehan, points from Keith Rossiter, Mark Woods brought us level, Plunkets pointed a free and Meehan pointed for us at the death to draw a game we could have won but, then again, we could have lost.

Seniors lose league opener to Plunkets
AFL1 St Sylvesters 0-07 St Oliver Plunkets ER 0-12 I only saw the first half and was disappointed to hear the final score as I thought we were really going to put it up to Plunkets in the second half. This looked more like championship football than most of what I saw last year. Plunkets, with most of their star players on show, starting at a fierce pace and grabbing three points before we got up the field at all. Fair play to our defence with Cian Cleere leading by example, we stood up strong and contained them until our outfield got into the game.
Inters win away to Whitehall
AFL3 Whitehall Colmcilles’ 0-8 St Sylvester’s 1-6 The intermediates put up a goal and four points early on and defended really well to record an excellent win. This is becoming a really good story about mixing youth and experience . . . . the story about this game was Keith Galvin's wonderful control and distribution and John Peacock stepping up from Minor and looking like a serious senior player.
Junior Bs great comeback at Peregrines
AFL9 St Peregrines 1-08 St Sylvesters 1-12 First half was backs to the wall stuff, Peregrines midfield calling the shots despite the best efforts of Reidy and McGinty, but not capitalizing on their chances. Eoin Kelly floated a free into their box for Chris Corcoran to bury, Conor Meehan hit two good points and we only trailed by two at the break. The second half followed the same pattern for a while and when Peregrines goaled it looked bad for us at five points down.
Sweeney and Coughlan win Sigersons with DCU
Congratulations to Gary and John on helping DCU win their third Sigerson with a pretty emphatic win over Maynooth in Galway today.
Sweeney misses famous DCU win in O'Byrne Cup
After contributing well to getting to the final it was a pity that Gary missed a famous victory fo rthe DCU students over Kildare in the O'Byrne Cup Final at Portlaois on Friday. They are still in the hunt in the Sigerson.
Four wins in Cup Football
The footballers continued the positive start to the year with four more wins in their respective cups - VdeP over Fingal Ravens, Joy Cup over St Vincents, Parsons Cup over Plunketts and Sheridan Cup over St Annes. The Junior Bs traveled to Bohernabreena, never an easy venue to visit, and led from start to finish without ever looking quite safe, winning 2-08 to 0-09.
