U16s go down to classy Crokes

U16s go down to classy Crokes

U16A Championship Final - St Sylvesters 1-5 Kilmacud Crokes 3-7 Lovely day at Parnell Park but Crokes got a jump on us early and, although we held our own through the middle of the game we failed to make much inroads and never really rattled their confidence. We started brightly and made a few chances early but didn't take them while Crokes took a nice point against the run of play and quickly followed with a class goal, the wing forward carrying 50 yards through the middle and, I think, surprised us with his aggression by going for his own goal.

U16s qualify for Championship Final

U16FC SemiFinal St Sylvesters 2-13 St Johns Balinteer 0-7 - Johns started quickly and raced into a 5 points to 2 lead before Syls started got into our stride but once we got going there was only going to be one result. I saw great performances in the full back line where Rory Boland was superb, midfield from Stephen Cunningham and Conor Mullarky and Pierce Gibney in particular causing trouble upfront. Final on Saturday week, May 22nd in Parnell Park - watch for details

U16 hurlers go down to Cuala

U16H Div1 St Sylvesters 1-5 Cuala 2 -12 We were slow to start in the first half and let Cuala control the game, however we battled on and were only down three points at half time. The second half was going to be difficult against a strong wind, we improved our game but found it difficult to get scores. A big thanks to our u15 players, seven of them played the full game for us today and all did very well.

U16 Football Cup – St Sylvesters 4 – 7 Cuala 4 – 4

This was our first game in this specially formatted football league for non hurlers. We fielded a combination of both u16 football teams. The lads gelled really well and gave a very impressive performance against a strong Cuala team. We started brightly and raced into an early lead but never got more than a couple of points ahead of Cuala. Our midfield of Niall Kelly and Shane Woods were getting through a huge amount of work.

U16H - St Sylvesters 2 - 7 Whitehall Colmcilles 2 - 12

This was our second game of the season and although we lost by five points, there was very little between the sides. Our workrate was tremendous throughout, we were down five points at half time against a stiff breeze. We put the Whitehall defence under huge pressure in the second half and we made them work hard for their win. Looking forward to the next game against St Judes on 10th April.

U16 go close at Crokes

Our U16 football team lost by a point away to Kilmacud in a great game of football. In a game that could have gone either way, our lads gave a great display of good football played at a very fast pace. Kilmacud won the championship last year and are very good . . .

U15B Footballers leave it too late

U15 Div4 St Sylvesters lost by 3 points to Kilmacud Crokes. We finished a very good season with a few goals from Paul McBride and Collie Byrne but had left it to late to overhaul a big deficit from the first half. Pat Brennan and Des O'Toole have had a great year with these lads, good run in their championship and a strong following from their parents, will be even better in 2010.

Last word for 'the quiet man'

Last word for 'the quiet man'

Manager, Eddie Mc Loughney spoke to the players in the dressing after the match. With his eyes closed and dripping in passion he attributed their win to the summer training of Colm O’Connor and Ernie Brenner, to Declan Ryan who previously trained this team and to Dave Mc Bride and Anthony Manning who train the under 14s. He also told the players that they had given everything they had during the match.
