U15 A Championship St Sylvesters V Castleknock Report

Our U15 team faced off against the undefeated Div 1 winners Castleknock on Sunday that made for an exciting match

After an excellent first half by our lads characterized by some great scores an upset looked like it might be on the cards as we took a slender, but deserved, 1 point lead into the break.  Castleknock the undefeated Div 1 Winners came back strong in the second half as their greater size, strength and ability to work points really came to the fore while playing with the breeze.

The game swung early  in the second half when Castleknock scored an excellent goal and we failed to convert a really well worked opportunity at the far end of the pitch.  Indeed if  Syls had converted any of the numerous goal chances we created in the second half  the final scoreline would have been a much fairer reflection of what had transpired.

To our lads credit they kept creating chances through out and they kept blocking, harrying and putting Castleknock under constant pressure til the end.  They did both themselves and the club proud with a real team performance characterized with some great football, total commitment and excellent workrate throughout.

From the Managements perspective Keith, Seamie and myself really felt that all the hard work the lads put in throughout the year showed and they had a real go playing with great belief and determination.  The lads did everything that was asked of them and more and can have no regrets.  For now we will all turn our attention to having an extended run in the  Shield and more importantly to a promotion playoff with St Pats of Donabate.

Hopefully the team will get their reward for all the hard work and next year we'll be rubbing shoulders with Castleknock again but this time in Div 1.

Final score:

Sylvesters 2-6  V Castleknock 3-14
