St Sylvesters U13 girls presentation of Division 5 league winners medals

The St Sylvesters U13 girls team won the Divison 5 league, winning 9 out of their 10 games. It was an exciting adventure where all the girls played an important part in winning the league.

There were only 15 girls available for the 1st league match back in February.  On a damp, cold blustery  Saturday afternoon  started with  a great win. The girls won match after match until they met Robert Emmets in late Apr on a blustery Staurday afternoon. The girls got back on the winning trail, which lead to a top of the table clash at the end of May against Westmanstown Gaels. A superb 1st half performance was the base for this win leaving the girls with the league in their hands.

The final game of the league against  St Brigids was a real team effort. After a shaky start  the St Sylvesters girls led 2-3 to 0-2 at half time. The girls held St Brigids scoreless until the last 10 minutes. An unfortunate long ball bounced in the square and into the net. This left for a very tense finish. The girls held St Brigids scoreless for the rest of the game to win  on a scoreline 1-3 to 2-3.

With school finishing for most of the girls, holidays loomed the presentation of the medals had to wait until the girls were back in school.  The medal presentation took place in the clubhouse on August 31st. The girls were very lucky to have Sinead Aherne, Captain of the Dublin Senior Ladies team .  I would like to thank Sinead for her great  contribution to a wonderful evening.  We all wish Sinead and her team the best of luck in the All Ireland final on 24 Sep against Mayo.

I would like to thank the club for the use of the function room and the provision of pizzas for the girls. A great evening was had by the parents as well.

Looks like the future of ladies' football is in safe hands at St Sylvester's. Congratulations and well done to all on this magnificent achievement. It is particularly brilliant considering there were only 15 players available at the start of the campaign, and you went on to win 9 out of 10. That is impressive at every level, and the club is very proud of you all.
