Under 15s draw…. short straw

— filed under:

St Sylvesters 2-9 Kilmacud Crokes 3-6 We were seven points up with seven minutes left and playing really well. Jack Hazley took yet another magnificent catch out of the volcanic ash from their kick out. When he finally landed he was dispossessed and while stretching for the ball he tripped his opponent. We were now down to 14 players and though we didn’t know it at the time there was actually 12 minutes left in the game and that was enough time for Croke’s to level the match with two goals and a point.

There are two sides to every story and up to that point we had been treated to a compelling, committed and skilful performance from the home side. The defending was tight, restricting Crokes to one goal and two points in the first half. Conor Dwyer  at corner back was tighter that a plaster to his opponent and Cian McCann and Karl Stacey were equally resolute. Eoin Hamill at centre half back reads the game like a veteran, is always picking up loose ball and driving out of defence. At half back Jordan Lawless, Adam Goodman and Ciaran Clifford were enjoying their defending and it showed.
At midfield Kevin Danaher had a massive task in containing his opponent but Kevin relishes a challenge and he rose to it today. Paul McBride skilfully worked the ball to his forwards and also manned the barricades in defence.
Jack Hazley’s high catching is one of the most potent weapons on this team and also a joy to behold. Alan Kavangh played a captains role even though he was injured and Darragh Walsh landed some beautiful points with his usual style. Dylan McNulty at full forward is talented and determined and he was well assisted by Colm Byrne and Dylan Cashin in a potent full forward line. Paul Kavanagh is doing great work with goalkeeper Philip Browne and it was evident in this game..
Afterwards, Panner spoke passionately to the team about taking pride in their performance. Aiden Mahon is doing valuable gym work with this team and he  certainly enjoyed watching the fruits of his work.
The draw was definitely the short straw. The performance was one to be really proud of. Dead right, Panner.
