Under 14A football Féile for boys - tough group

— filed under:

We beat St Vincent’s in our first match and lost to Kilmacud Crokes in the second. We needed to win our third match but lost to Ballyboden, the eventual winners by four points.

For those of you subjected to learning the infamous Catechism you will remember the phrase “God created man in his own image and likeness.”

Dave Mc Bride has been managing this under14 team for many years. Dave is honest, and I mean really honest with no short cuts and no dodgy sideline decisions.  He is passionate about sport. He tries to hide it but it radiates off him. He has the work ethic of his breed (culchie) and the skills of a natural teacher.

Fergus Byrne enjoys his reputation as a “drill sergeant.”(See Full Metal Jacket) He pushes hard at training. He has, however, taken his coaching courses and is a skilled paramedic. He knows his business and never misses training.

Panner McCarhy came to our training session last Thursday and spoke to the team. He knows these boys and they know him. He has also spent years training them. There is a bond between them. He also came to the Féile over in Crokes last Saturday. He knows what it means to be there for them.

Brendan Bannigan the third voice that ensures all that is done is for the right reasons and for the benefit of all. The mellowing influence on those 'rare' occasions when there are differences of opinion an absolute necessity in our acheivments thus far.

The team played with all the honesty, passion, skill and effort that are their hallmarks and a tribute to the mentors. They showed great dignity in defeat.

Last word to Dave Mc bride with the following text sent to the players within one hour of defeat.

“Well done to all today. You really worked so hard. We are so proud of your efforts and your attitude to losing. It will make winning in the future sweeter. Thanks for all the support.”

Thanks to you, Dave, Fergus and Panner, for what you created.
