U16 Hurlers win at Cuala

— filed under:

The Under 16 hurlers took the DART to Shankill to face Cuala in the penultimate game of the League. Despite the log trip Syls came out of the traps fast racing in to a half time lead of 2-10 to 0-5 and, on the occasions when the ball could be found in the very long grass, produced some splendid passages of fast and committed hurling.

Cuala to their credit never gave up and came back strongly from the start of the second half and it took a tremendous diving save from Derek Morris in the Syls goal to deny them the chance of a frantic last 10 minutes. AT the final whistle we ran out winners on a scoreline of 5-15 to 2-10. All in all we were happy with most aspects of the performance especially given it was the first competitive game since the break for holidays. All 15 players had their moments and while it is great to travel so far and come back with a win we have a number of things to work on.

A number of the Under 15s slotted in and performed very well and with great credit –Conor Quinn, Kevin McLoughney, Stephen Cunningham and Sean Kane- and we thank them for supporting us. Other standout players were Oisin Klikenberg, Brian Shalloe, Gareth McGrath and John Peacock. Thanks also to Danny O’Connor and Declan Morris who ferried us from the DART station in Shankill.

Scorers Conor Meaney 1-6, (2f), Tom Richardson 2-2, (1f), James O’Callaghan 1-2, Sean Kane (1-0), Stephen Cunningham and Andy Smith (0-2 each) John Peacock(0-1)
