U16 Hurlers back on winning trail

— filed under:

Syls Under 16 Hurlers returned to winning ways with a hard fought but well earned win away to Naomh Barrog on Saturday. Syls started brightly and David Kennedy had our opening score within in the first minute, however Barrogs came storming back managing to get in behind our full back line to crash home a well taken goal.

However their lead lasted only a short time and with goals from Thomas Richardson and John Peacock, some great point scoring from Peacock, Richardson, Conor Meaney and James O’Callaghan and some hard and dogged defending we turned 2-5 to 1-3 ahead. Syls started the second half slowly, conceding 4 quick points but yet again the team dug in and took the game to the home side. Barrogs went close in the end but Syls held out to win 2-11 to 1-10.

This was a much improved performance from our last game with determination, commitment and physicality in abundance. Man of the Match John Peacock weighted in with 1-2 and a great assist, Derek Morris made a couple of crucial blocks, Niall Gilson was solid under the dropping ball but this was in essence a good team performance (we had 7 different scorers) with all contributing and having their moments. Well done to the 15 who started and to our sub Conor Ryan we aim to continue to improve ahead of our next game away to Crumlin on the 25th

of this month.
