U14 hurlers win at Nmh Barróg
Second win from four games in the league, Syls 1-9 Nmh Barrog 1-4. We trailed for all of the first half, down 1-3 to 0-1 at one point but battled hard to go in 1-3 to 0-4 at the break. A few positional changes brought us more into the game in the second half. Thomas Colclough gave a man of the match performance at centre back (think he got that from his father), sweeping all before him, Eoin McCarthy(4 ponts) and Eoin Kennedy (1 point) and Andrew Cunningham (2 points) picked up the pace and when Ben Higgins swung his Big Bertha to goal in the middle of the half we were on our way.
Against the breeze in the 1st half, our back six of Karl (Goalkeeper), Gavin, Killian,Simon,Paidi & Daniel confined Barrog to 1-3 while at the other end Andrew, EoinMc,Sean,Paddy and Thomas got the 3 vital points to keep us to within one score at halftime.
A re-arranged team started the 2nd half, Thomas dropped to centre-back, Simon moved up to counter Barrog's very talented no8 and Daniel went full forward.
Thomas, broken thumb and all, caught everything that came near and eventually the Andrew, EoinMc and Daniel found their range and slotted home the points. Ben Higgins marked his return to hurling (broken foot) with an excellent goal from a ground stroke that Padriac Harrington would be proud of ! EoinMc on free taking duty ( in Colly's absence) did an excellent job, and Eoin Kennedy got a nice point to complete the scoring.
Sean Finn had by far his best game since joining the team last year and was unlucky not to score on a few occasions.
A welcome return to winning ways but more importantly an excellent battling TEAM effort against the odds. Well done lads.
With only 3 training session remaining before the Hurling Feile it's vital that we get full attendance so we can give the feile a good lash ..!!
