The under 15 hurlers, pulling hard and pulling together

— filed under:

St Mark’s 0-6 St Sylvester’s 2-10 - We had the bare 15 players available for this match and that included 4 players from the ranks of the under14s. Mark’s began with the aid of a stiff breeze and it was obvious early on that Sylvester’s were in for a real test.

Conor Dwyer in midfield was up against an excellent opponent and he really applied himself to the task. He also managed to score some fine points. Paul McBride made a major contribution to the score line from open play and some excellent frees. Alan Kavangh at centre half back put in a commanding performance and he was well assisted on the half back line by Karl Stacey and Joe Bannigan who gave very little room to the opponents.
At half time it was 5 points each. Our defence had been busy and both teams were relying on their free takers.
An early second half attack by Mark’s resulted in a brilliant and important save by Jordan Lawless. The breakthrough goal came shortly after this from an excellent strike by Philip Browne who made his presence felt at full forward. Jack Hazley was also very involved at centre forward and he worked hard throughout. Dillion Doyle was also very involved in the action and he contributed well to the overall effort.
The full back line of Cian McCann, Eoin Kennedy and Brendan Shepard did not allow any easy passage and repelled all efforts on their goal. The match was a real test for the under 14 players, Paul Ryan Eoin McCarthy, Eoin Kennedy and Gavin Mulligan and they played with great maturity and determination.
This was a victory for determination and team spirit and it was evident in each and every player. They pulled hard and they pulled together.
