The senior football team were edged out by a single goal in the final of the Vincent De Paul Cup last Monday in Parnell Park. Unfortunately this result also counts as a league game. The intermediates lost by a single point in their league game with St Monica’s. The junior team playing in division six had a four point win over neighbours St Finians. The division nine football team lost by four points to St Anne’s. The minor hurlers shared the points with Naomh Barrog and the minor football team had a two point win over Clontarf. The junior hurlers had a five point win over Thomas Davis.

The inaugural hosting of the Paddy McCarthy Under 21 Football Tournament begins this Monday in Broomfield with the home team taking on St Oliver Plunkett’s and St Brigit’s taking on Ballymun. Both games begin at 7.30pm. Eight teams are taking part and the full programme of matches is listed on the website. www.stsylvesters.ie

Sinead Ahearne contributed five points to Dublin’s win over Laois in the Leinster Final and the Dubs now march on the quarter finals.

We were all shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Dermot Gilson, father to Sylvester’s players William and Niall. We extend our sincerest sympathies to Chris, Grainne, Robin, Evelyn, William and Niall. Dermot was always available to help out at football and hurling games and he will be sadly missed around St Sylvester’s and the village. Ar dheis Dé, Dermot, go raibh do anam, you will be missed.
