A conditioning summer camp is being run by Migym in both Gannon Park and Boroimhe Shopping Centre Swords. The aim of the camp is to give a firm grounding in the fundamentals of functional sports conditioning to kids in the 16-19 age bracket. The course will cover the following areas
- Nutrition & hydration
- Injury Prevention
- Performance enhancement
- Sport specific strength (This portion will be tuned to the sports played by each participant)
This is an excellent opportunity for our players in this age
bracket to learn how to develop in a safe and sustainable way. The
trainers involved have good specific GAA experience particularly Neil
Barrett and Kevin Heerey.
Neil Barrett prepared the Jordanstown Sigerson Cup teams for a
number of years. He also did strength and conditioning with senior
county players (Donegal, Down, Derry and Antrim) on an individual basis
on behalf of their counties. He has worked with the Sport Institute of
Northern Ireland (SINI) as a performance Analyst to senior county teams
(Derry, Down & Armagh).
Kevin Heerey has done strength and conditioning work with the Dublin Hurling team and worked with a number of Dublin club teams.
The cross functional background of the trainers, everything from
athletics to martial arts, will make this a very rich learning
experience. As an example, GAA players could benefit from adapting kick
boxing techniques to improve their footwork or from developing the speed
and explosive power of track and field athletes.
