Ye Panner is right. Myself John Stapleton and Big Pat McCarthy (Panner's Father) mentored most of this team at U16 level in 1980. Big Pat arranged a trip to Cork the same year where we had a Civic reception in City Hall with Toddy O'Sullivan who was Lord Mayer of Cork at the time. Toddy actually met us at the train. Big Pat did not do things in small measures. I will try and dig out a photograph of the team on the steps of City Hall and send it on. Syls beat Finbars u16 in the match. Finbars Senior team were All Ireland Champions at the time. The Finbars hospitality to Syls was unbelievable. Panner mentions the lads who are abroad. Panner himself is of course very involved with the Club. Conor Cremin is also to be seen in the Club on a regular basis. Ian McComish has been persauded to help out with the Nursery in the past year. I also met Tarzan Peter Denworth who was also a member of the U16 panel in te Club last Friday. He was home from England and I had not seen him for 30 years.

Panner, Unfortunately I've moved even further away, now in Sydney Australia, and with the boots well and truly hung up! Coach my sons soccer team and help out with their rugby league teams, both tall and bit gangly like I used to be! I did continue to play GAA in both London and Hong Kong. Helped to set up the GAA club in HK and was club captain for the first Asian GAA Cup which we won with a few ex-county minor players who were out working on the construction of Hong Kongs new airport in 1996. Haven't managed to get to a Sylvs game in a few years, must try again in the summer if I get back!

That picture was taken in O'Toole Pk in 1982. It was the County Div 3 Minor lge final against Crumlin. We won Div 3 north and they won the south. That game ended in a draw and the replay was played in St Margarets.Unfortunately we lost that by a point. That was the first minor team since Syls reformed in the 70's.
Liam Downey won an All Ireland minor medal in 1982 and now lives in London.Ronan Delaney lives in Hong Kong,Alex Stenson lives in Florida.Conor O'Toole lives in Kildare,Mick Mc Dermott is in Australia and Paddy Donnelly is in Sligo. Most of the rest still live in the area, but Im not sure where Mick Roche ended up.
