The U14s had another busy Saturday, this time with the hurling Feile division 2. We won our first tow games, a point over Kevins a dn a bit more against Faughs but came a bit of a cropper against Plunkets ER. That sent us as group losers to Russel Park to play a smart looking Judes who had won the other group and were just too strong for us on the day as well. Brendan sent the full story.
Seven under 13s and seventeen under 14 hurlers went out to battle for the Féile division 2 title losing out in the semi final to St Jude’s the eventual winners. After starting slowly in the competition we did put in a very good battling performance against Jude’s in the semi final.
The roll of honour from the back line of the photograph, left to right
- Josh Nolan, from the 13s came in against Faugh’s and did very well for us. He looked quite at home and can certainly hurl.
- Simon Owens again from the 13s played every game at corner back and was one of the stars on the day. He was brilliant and brave.
- Hugh Murray, also from the 13s was also brilliant at half back especially in the red heat of battle against St Judes. He was strong, athletic and skilful
- Owen Manning gives of his best and did so on Saturday as well making his contribution to the overall effort.
- Alan Kavanagh played midfield, worked harder than anyone and showed some lovely skills especially his high catching and free taking.
- Paul McBride is a marquee player who also works hard; scoring all 6 points in our opening match and with skill and speed to burn is a class act.
- Jack Hazley, played on bravely with an injured back and was badly missed when he had to come off because he can pluck them out of the air better than anyone.
- Jordan Lawless at centre half back defended with everything he had and is the heart and soul of the team. He had a great tournament.
- Philip Browne in goal was busy stopping bullets, catching missiles and launching them back down on the opposition back line. Played really well
- Cian McCann at corner back was excellent and gave nothing away. Attitude is his second name and he is a great man marker.
- Dillon Doyle a much improved player didn’t let anyone down with his contribution.
- Kevin Dannaher at centre forward had some great battles and did especially well against a very good Jude’s opponent.
Karl Stacey worked hard in a busy half back line and got in some great clearances.
Front line of the photograph for left to right
- Brendan Shepard never takes a backward step and worked his patch with his usual great energy.
- Mark Doyle was injured and unfortunately was not able to take any part. A fine hurler he was missed on the field.
- Eoin Fitzsimons again from the 13s did not look out of place and worked his passage well. He has “presence” and will be a leader nest year.
- Colm Bourne has excellent hurling skills and looked very good in possession at half forward.
- Andrew Cunningham came on at corner back and got out ahead of his opponent well making some great clearances.
- Eoin Kennedy again from the under 13s put an excellent performance against Faughs.
- Conor Dwyer always gets the most determined award and this in addition to his very good skills makes him a hurling force for this team.
- Colm Byrne at full back reads it like a veteran and he had a great tournament along with his sidemen in the best line on the team.
- Simon McKeown unfortunately came off injured but gave his usual dynamo performance at half back earlier in the day.
- Joe Bannigan scored a couple of nice points against Faughs early in the game when scores were needed.
- Conal Cannon has a nice touch on the ball and made his contribution to the overall effort. Played very well against Faughs.
- Ciaran Fitzgerald coming back off injury played his usual whole hearted style. He is serious about his hurling but hampered by injury at the moment.
