Good win for U16B footballers - Shield Semi coming up

— filed under:

Our U16 Div 3 side have booked a place in the u16 B Shield semi final by beating the league leaders Naomh Barrog. It was an extremely tough game and we were 6 points down at half time. Mid-way through the 2nd half we were 1 point to the good but Naomh Barrog battled back to a 2 point lead.

For the last 10 mins we piled on the pressure and our twice weekly training regime was starting bear fruit as Naomh Barrog struggled with the pace of our team. However, our recent problems were beginning to show again and we could not covert our possession into scores but with 1 minute to go the outstanding Mark Finnerty was in on goal but was pulled down just outside the box(according to the ref). Danny Zeliga went for the goal , it looked over the line but Derek Doran awarded a penalty. Up stepped Kevin Lynott and with nerves of steel placed the ball in the corner of the net. Game over! We have 20 players in our squad all training hard and pushing for a place on the team. It looks good for Syls minor teams next year, but for the moment we have as semi-final to play.......

Many thanks to our parents for their continued support.
