Vintage Sweeney helps save the Dubs
How can you be vintage at 17 years . . . anybody who has ever seen Gary gliding through a defense will know what I mean. The Dubs trailing by a point, time running out, Sweeney picked up a break near the middle, turned on the after burners and was on the 21 before the Laois lads caught him. Dublin equalised off the free . . . . and won in extra time.
Dublin v Offaly - Leinster MFC semi-final - 3 Syls involved
Dublin make two changes for their Leinster MFC semi-final against Offaly at OConnor Park, Tullamore on Saturday (5.15). Philip Ryan comes into the attack for the injured Cormac Diamond while Kevin OBrien has replaced Mark Schutte in defence.
Dublin Minors win again in extra time
FROM HILL16.IE - Dublin are into their first Leinster MFC final since 2003 after overcoming Offaly in this semi-final at OConnor Park, Tullamore on Saturday evening. The Dubs did it the hard way as they surrendered an early seven-point lead, had corner-back Seán Swords sent off (two yellows) in the 33rd minute, before the game eventually went to extra-time.
Eoin Boyne with Dublin Minors
Well done to the Dublin Minor Footballers in recovering their poise to win well over Louth in the Leinster MFC Qualifier. Syls Eoin Boyne came on late in the game. Report on Hill16 at http://hill16.ie/viewstoryhill16.asp?id=12402&mainheading=Word+on+The+Hill&viewstory=yes
Fortress Parnell . . hardly . . but a great evening nonetheless
Leinster U21 Hurling Final. Kilkenny hit us for 1-3 early, we missed easy frees and there was a sense of inevitability in the crowd, not the blind partisanship some of would have hoped for. We missed lots more frees, maybe 7 or 8 very scorable, and only lost by 4, 2-20 to 1-19, we got to within 3 but gave up a really crap goal, but the Cats always looked crisper in their catching and striking and it would be crass to claim we were the better team.

Congrats Gary Sweeney and Dublin U21s
Well done to Gary and the Dublin u21s retaining the Leinster title over Westmeath yesterday in Parnell Park. Next up is Roscommon, see if we can go one step further than last year when Dominic McDonnell and Niall Coughlan lost out to Cork in the semis - report taken from Hill16.ie
Hats off to Parnell Park
I've been meaning to note the great venue that Parnell Park is becoming for hurling and football. Last week I saw Brian Cody and his Kilkenny players hang around after the NHL game and sign autographs and have pictures taken. Today it was Cork hurlers turn (Mick tells me that Sean Óg O'Ailpín was still on the field signing autographs when the Cork bus was ready to leave, well done Sean). Nice crowd, good game, every kid with a hurley out on the field at half time hoping to be noticed by a scout, great sport altogether, well done Dublin County Board - now, if only we could buy a win!!
Sweeney stars for Dubs U21 - Coughlan for Offaly
Leinster U21QF Louth 1-08 Dublin 1-14. Many of the people who attended the game commented on how well Gary did. A lot of them felt that we was one of the best players on show on the day. The report in this mornings Irish times on the Offaly game from yesterday commented that John Coughlan was impressive on his Offaly debut playing the full 60 minutes at midfield - Cathal
Syls girls in Dublin Kerry game

Syls on county duty
It's been difficult to keep up but a few of our players have been busy on the county scene of late - pride of place again to Sinead Aherne for the Jackies fine league over Cork at Fermoy last week - Martin Ormonde has been starring with Fingal in the Keogh Cup along with Alan Morris and Andrew Richardson, Brian Sexton had a a good run out at centre back in the O'Byrne Cup at Navan for the Dubs, Darren Clarke for Louth and Diarmuid Kinsella for Wexford while John and Niall Coughlan will be seen in the tricolour of the Faithful County this season 'Uibh Fhailaí Uibh Fhailaí' - Barry Ryan and Ross Hazely played for Fingal and there are probably some more - please send comments to info@stsylvesters.ie

U13 football and hurling
On Saturday afternoon in good weather Syls u13 footballers restarted the Div 1 league after the summer break with a good away win over rivals St Maurs. A depleted squad due hols etc ground out a hard fought win. Final score 3-4 to 2-3. The u13 North Dublin Hurling squad were not as lucky with the weather on Sunday morning.
Syls lads do well at Tony Forrestal Cup in Waterford
Tony Forrestal Cup fro U14 Hurling - In the Div2 match vs Tipp , Paul McBride started at full forward but was moved out as very little ball getting through, Dublin were outplayed in the first half, 2-5 to 0-1. Big turnaround after the break, lads seems to find their feet, Paul was super around the middle and half forward line, 2 great points from play and a couple from frees. Conor Dwyer came on, played in the forward line and although didn't score , he made a hugh difference, any ball that came in, stayed in, kept Tipp under constant pressure, Tipp didn't score in 2nd half, final score 2-5 to 1-6. Tipp went thro to final.
Scór calendar - Oct to Feb 2010
I attach our calendar for the year. As you can see we plan a very busy schedule this year, so there should be something of interest to everyone. We are kicking off with Scor na nOg in early November. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Craobh Chiarain, Naomh Mearnog and Lucan Sarsfields for hosting us this year. we are very grateful to them as without their cooperation and that of other clubs we could not function. All Ireland Ladies Semi Final - best wishes to Sinead Aherne
Our last hope of wresting an All Ireland from our Cork cousins this year rests squarely with Sinead Aherne and the Jackies but first they must overcome last years formidable finalists, Monaghan at Ardee next Saturday, 6th September. Hopefully we will have big support - Ardee is only up the road. Nice preview attached from the Ladies website.
