Malahide Sports Lotto
St Sylvesters GAA are pleased to announce that we are one of the local sports clubs participating in the newly formed Malahide Sports Lotto. This exciting community project is an initiative of Malahide Rugby Club designed to enable Malahide sports clubs to raise vital funds for their sporting activities in the community.
Participating Clubs: There will initially be 5 clubs involved. Along with ourselves, the Rugby, Tennis, Cricket and Yacht clubs are also participating. These clubs are taking part in one significant Lotto for all of their adult members, their friends, families and the wider community.
Jackpots from €2,000 to €20,000: Jackpots will start at €2,000 and will grow, until won, on a weekly basis to €20,000. The more players that participate, the quicker the jackpot will build. There will also be other weekly prizes such as Match 3 and spot prizes.
Web Entries: Making use of modern communication and internet facilities, the lotto will be run on the LocalLotto.ie platform. This method is now used by many GAA clubs including St Judes, Kilmacud Crokes, Parnells, St Vincents and also by well-known clubs from other sports such as Shamrock Rovers, Dundalk FC, Irish Hockey and others. Members can enter through www.stsylvesters.ie and pay for their numbers from the comfort of their own home and most importantly, our members, former members and friends living abroad can join in the fun using the web. For members who do not use the web, facilities will be made available in the club-house at nominated times to be announced.
€2 per week to play. Lotto entries will start at as low as €2 per line per week and participants will be able to nominate how many lines they want and how many weeks ahead they wish to play (minimum entry of 10 weeks). You could, for example enter for the next 10 weeks or even for the next year. You can even buy lines for other people as a gift! Payment is made by credit card.
Weekly draws will be conducted publicly in each club’s premises on a rotating basis and it is anticipated that these draws will become an event in themselves. The first draw will be in Malahide Rugby Club on Easter Sunday April 24th, and all members and friends are welcome to attend. Results will be emailed to every participant every week and will be posted on www.stsylvesters.ie and on the Malahide Sports Lotto web-site www.malahidesportslotto.com.
Registration will start on April 10th and we encourage St Sylvester’s members to register by going through our own web-site www.stsylvesters.ie where there will be a special Lotto page. The first draw is currently scheduled for April 24th (Easter Sunday).
Proceeds, after prize funds, administration and marketing costs are deducted, will be divided among the clubs in proportion to the number of weekly entries each club contributes. If you register through www.stsylvesters.ie your entries are automatically allocated to our club. If you enter through www.malahidesportslotto.com or through www.locallotto.ie you will be given the choice of selecting your preferred club. For the wider community, a participant may opt to support “all clubs” in which case their entry will be divided among the clubs, again in proportion to each club’s overall contribution.
Management of the lotto will be undertaken by Malahide Rugby Club under the direction and guidance of a steering committee consisting of a representative of each club and will be financially governed by a finance team also consisting of representatives from each team. Administration and publicity will be undertaken by the rugby club who are the initial promoters of this initiative and the central licence holders and who are seeding the initial jackpot.
Promoters Required
We need people to help promote the lotto to the membership at large and also to friends, family, contacts at home and abroad thereby helping the club in a very meaningful way.

Community Approach
While the objective of this initiative is to help our club with another form of raising funds, there are many more potential benefits to be derived from such a community based initiative that we can explore as this project develops. Not least of these will be the potential for advertising revenue on the dedicated website www.malahidesportslotto.com, which will give potential advertisers a wider audience. Also, the weekly draws will encourage members of each club to visit other clubs thereby “breaking the ice” for greater community participation in club events.
