Reports on all Ladies and Girls teams
It was another great win on home turf for our senior ladies against Man O War. It was played under the new floodlights in Broomfield and many turned up on the sidelines to show support for their team. Final score 22 to 1-11.
Magnificent win of the Leinster final by the Dublin minor women's team against Kildare today. Final score 6-13 to 2-12. The team included ( pictured above) our very own Kate Sullivan and Danielle lawless. We need to really publicise how amazing this is for our club that we have two Dublin minor players ( not to mention our Dublin senior players/ captain). Also to mention the match this coming Wednesday in Broomfield at 7.15 at which both girls will be playing. Thanks Karen

Dublin Ladies play Donegal in Parnell Park on Sunday at 2p.m. This should be a cracker. Only a point separated the teams in last year's Championship match. Both teams have registered two wins and one loss in the League. Do support the girls on Sunday and we wish Niamh a speedy recovery from her recent injury

The AGM was held on January 24. A good attendance heard annual reports from the Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. Two long-serving people, Angela Aherne and Katerina Ryan, stepped down from their positions on the committee and were thanked for their selfless service over the years. Angela Aherne, former Secretary, has gracefully agreed to stay on as a delegate to the county board.
St Sylvester’s, Sinead Aherne has been announced as the new Dublin Ladies senior captain taking over the position from Noelle Healy who will now take on the role of team vice-captain.
The Ladies Section AGM will be held on Tuesday 24th January at 8.00 pm. We look forward to seeing mentors, parents and adult players on the 24th. Angela Aherne Ladies Secretary.
Best wishes to Danielle and Kate on coming through a very rigorous selection process and making the final cut for the Dublin minor panel. Danielle played a key role for last year's minor team and Kate follows in her footsteps this year as she has two years left at this grade.
Under 14 Girls were presented with medals and a trophy on Sunday evening to mark their great achievement in finishing top of Division 2 in their league. After a quiet (not really) Xmas lunch in The Scotch Bonnet, the girls were presented with their medals by Sinéad Ahern at an event in the club. Thanks to Sinéad for presenting the medals and for her words of encouragement to the girls. Thanks also to the many parents who turned up to whoop and applaud the players.
Sinead pictured on the outer left, was joint winner of the Dublin Senior Players Player of the year 2016 with Niamh Collins of FoxRock Cabinteely. Player of the year was awarded to Sinead Goldrick also of Foxrock Cabinteely. November has been a wonderful month for Sinead, picking up her 5th All Star, We Are Dublin Player of the year and the above award.
Sylvester’s Under 14 girls had a great victory last Sunday over Plunket’s in a play-off that saw our girls win the division 2 title! The match itself was played at a thunderous pace throughout with both sides intent on winning the ultimate prize. The many spectators who turned up on a cold and wintry day were kept on their toes by a hotly contested battle from start to finish.
Well get you Keith Murphy, white bowtie, how cool. And Suzanne and Mick Stuart, swanking it on Saturday night. Congratulations to Angela and Redmond, great honour for your family and a great honour for St Sylvesters. Of course I was disappointed Sinead did not get Footballer of the Year, she had a great season but congratulations to the Cork girls, you'e some team. And well done Sinead for making Keith look so good, some achievement. Pictures from Peter.many thanks for sharing.
Congratulations to Sinead and also for her recent All Star nomination. She gets my vote but I'm sure that's no surprise. The nominees have today been announced for the TG4 Player’s Player of the Year awards with the overall winners set to be announced at the 2016 TG4 All Star Awards at the Citywest Hotel on November 12th. Briege Corkery could be set to win her third Player’s Player of the Year award and her second in a row as she is nominated for the award along with fellow 11 time TG4 All Ireland winner, Bríd Stack. Dublin’s Sinead Aherne is the third nominee for the honour following a series of brilliant performances throughout the year.

A brilliant night was had by St. Sylvester’s Girls and Ladies section at the official launch of their new sponsor CMC Markets on Saturday 22nd October. Each team were presented with a new set of jerseys by Ladies Committee Chairperson Martin Moore and Ivan Fox of CMC Markets . Guest speaker Dublin Ladies All Star player Sinead Aherne, spoke to a large attendance of mentors, coaches and parents on the night. She delighted the crowd with an account of her football career from playing in St. Sylvester’s street leagues to being an inspirational player for Dublin's Ladies Senior team.
Very proud of the girls last Saturday who lost a real cracking final by one point to Na Fianna after coming back from 8 points down at one stage and missing 4 starters ( thanks to Aoife, Caoimhe and Leah from U14s for stepping up to fill gap ) - and what a touch of real class from Na Fianna coach for taking off one of their players when one of ours got sin binned for what he felt was a very harsh call - well done Derek and congrats to your girls they are a credit to you.
Congratulations to the Syls Gaelic4Mothers team back in the National Blitz which we co-hosted again this year with neighbours Naomh Marnóg. Maybe Dee or Keith can tell us a little more about this greatest of sports days. If you've never seen G4M take a look at the attached video, what a movement. Peter sent a link to some brilliant pictures and also said that Croke Park said 'Syls were the best supported and had the best fun vibe for the day. The atmosphere around the slys pitch was electric'
Despite the inclement weather conditions, Broomfield was a buzz of activity on Saturday the 24th September as over a thousand players participated in the Ladies All Ireland 7's, jointly hosted by Syls and Mearnogs for the 13th time. Visiting teams were most appreciative of our fine facilities and the club contribution.
Sinead Aherne has been outstanding for Dublin this season finishing the championship as the Dub's top scorer with a mighty tally of 6-33 to her name. Aherne a four times All Star has long been acknowledged as one of the top forwards in Ladies football This was inveterate this season with the St Sylvester’s ace amassing 5-13 from play while converting an impressive 1-20 from dead ball situations. Will we ever forget that last minute free against Mayo!
Sinead, Niamh and Nicole want to say a big Thank You to all our club supporters on Sunday. The massive support and attendance in Croke Park was deeply appreciated. It means a lot to us despite the result. We are very proud to have represented Syls on the Dublin team and wish to thank all the fantastic mentors who have worked with us over the years, and all of our teammates.
From the Dublin Ladies website. Congratulations to Sinead and best wishes to Sinead, Nicole and Niamh and all the Ladies Dubs as they prepare for the All Ireland against Cork next week. Sinead Aherne has been named as ‘The Croke Park’ Player of the Month for August.
