100 at Jobs Advice Event
17th April: Over 100 people attended the 3rd BSNSS event in St Sylvester’s GAA Club, Malahide. Entitled “Smarter Ways to Find and Get a Job”, the full audience was treated to two very interesting, informative and at times, provocative presentations by club members and well known business people Ray Nolan of Worky.com and Jason Kennedy of Grafton Employment Group.
Following the presentations a lively Questions and Answers session took place and it was clear from the engagement that this topic represents an area of deep concern, particularly for the parents in the audience.
The BSNSS team had prepared a series of information leaflets on CV Preparation; Interview Skills and How to Find a Job and these were made available at information desks at the end of the formal meeting.
The evening finished up with an attendees’ draw for an Apple iPad2, sponsored by Dr Róisín Corkery of the Dental Practice in New Street, Malahide. The lucky winner was club member Ray O Brien and there were consolation prizes of Colgate toothpaste and Keeling apples for everyone else in the audience.

Improve Your Pitch 7th Feb
By Caroline Heffernan. On Tuesday 7th February last, St. Sylvester’s GAA Club, Malahide held their second Business and Services Network (BSNSS) meeting in their club house on Church Road. BSNSS was established by St. Sylvester’s members to provide business opportunities for members of the club in these straitened economic times. The meeting was a great success with guest speakers Yanky Fachler and Ron Immink of Bookbuzz.ie entertaining the sixty strong audience with sound advice on improving their business pitch. In response to questions from Immink, Fachler urged those present to ‘engage your audience with enthusiasm, keep your use of technology to a minimum, tell your story succinctly and remember to include everyone in the room.’ All of which Fachler managed with ease as he held his audience enthralled.
The Business and Services Network has three basic aims.
- They intend to hold regular events in St. Sylvester’s club house providing opportunities for Club members involved in business to meet and interact with one another.
- They are establishing an online directory of members’ businesses, professional or trade services. Any member wishing to be included in this listing can send their business directory entries to info@stsylvesters.ie.
- The third aim of BSNSS is to provide mentoring for younger members of the club in career advice and assistance.
The BSNSS Network
BSNSS is the Business and Services Network for St Sylvester's.
This network is open to members of the club and has 3 key goals:

-
Recruitment, education and mentoring opportunities for younger members who are embarking on their future careers.

BSNSS Launch on Nov 8th
Syls had with a successful launch of our new Business and Services Network ("BSNSS") on Tuesday evening Nov 8th. About 120 people representing a very broad spectrum of business turned up to hear Bobby Kerr gave an insightful and amusing keynote. Ernie, John, Alex and Kevin laid out the possibilities and aspirations for the network and our chairman Eddie provided the leadership, as usual, and the members present set the expectation that we can and will help each other and our members in business related matters just as we do in sporting matters.
