News and Match Reports
Congratulations to Daire, Riain and Matthew
Another great turnout last Monday for the annual St Stephens Day hurling. We had a minutes silence and rousing round of applause for Declan, Leonard spared the whistle, Davy Keogh said Hello, Liam Foley led his crew, Tom Hughes gave Luke a hand, Ian's McCafferty's lad stole the show sending Hillary the wrong way, Shay Early's lad and Niall McCarthy also showed promise, another good day out. I almost have 10 years of pictures, mostly not great, I'm sure Danny O'Connor has lots more.
Great to see we are nearly there with the floodlights project in Broomfield - - All pole bases installed and cabling in. (see pic) - Generator base and fencing installed. (see pic) - Lighting columns delivered to Broomfield (see pic) - Seamus Byrne Electrical has all other plant and materials now in his stores or ready to be delivered i.e. Generator, light fittings and main panel. Unfortunately with the recent wet weather the ground is too soft (particularly on the houses side of the pitch) to erect the poles and lights as damage would be caused. - There is about 2/3 weeks work left after the Christmas to complete weather permitting
As the year draws to a close and many of you are hopefully enjoying a well-deserved break, we would like to send our thanks for the huge contribution you have made to the young people in our club and the broader community within Malahide. Our club and it’s members are blessed to have so many committed volunteers who have freely given up their time and resources to make such an important contribution to the development of our young people.
All juvenile fixtures for 2017 - thanks to the hard working CCC1 and CCC2 committees in Parnell Park
The numbers have been crunched . . . The bribes have been returned (the money is just resting...) , . . . The fat lady has sung . . .
Last Saturday was a very sad day for for the club with the funeral of Declan Morris. It was lovely to see such a large crowd turn out to mourn Declan. St Sylvesters hurlers and U12 footballers provided a guard of honour while a number of club members also provided very fitting tributes to Declan at the funeral ceremony. Many thanks to Martin and Eddie and the staff at the club and Sportslink for looking after the mourners and thanks to Carole and the Morris's for letting us share in a very sad but proud day.

U21HC C SemiFinal St Sylvesters 3-10 St Kevins 1-08 Good win last evening against a tough St Kevins at Alfie Byrne Rd. Eoin McCarthy gets the headline for three superb goals but is was a good all round display. Defensively we had to withstand a serious fightback from Kevins and we kept the goals out when it really mattered. Th efinal is this Saturday v St Maurs at the same venue, Alfie Byrne Park Clontarf 14.00 - see you there. A few artistic pictures from Peter attached.
Attached are the Secretaries and Treasurer Reports for the Dublin County Convention on 14th Dec 2016. Thanks once again to Dublin County Board for sharing and congratulations on another very successful season on all fronts for Dublin GAA.
Club Night Just to confirm that we'll go ahead with Club Mentors & Parents night on Tuesday 27th Dec. If lead mentors could send on to parents that would be great. KYS2016 = Results & winners will be published tomorrow, Apologies for the delay. Regards, Fergal McStay, Secretary
Fingal CC have communicated that they do not intend to proceed with the “Forest Adventure Area and Multi-Use Reinforced Grass Area” at Malahide Demesne. Fingal CC have stated that they plan to carry out a review of the number of short-term car parking spaces in and adjacent to Malahide Village and, if necessary, identify suitable locations for the provision of additional spaces. At this point in time we have no indication if future proposals could potentially impact upon our existing facilities. This decision has potential implications for our ambitions relating to development plans at Broomfield. We will continue to engage constructively with Fingal CC to attempt to address this matter on behalf of the membership of St Sylvesters GAA.
The St Sylvesters 2009 football and hurling team would like to say a big thank you to Liz Murphy of My Hair (salons at Yellow Walls Road and St James Terrace) for sponsoring a set of jerseys for the upcoming season. The 2009 team have been eagerly preparing for the leagues which will start in February and the new jerseys were sported in the recent home and away blitzes with our neighbours Fingallians. The team have added 12 new players to the squad since September and new players are always welcome, training will recommence in mid January.
Under 14 Girls were presented with medals and a trophy on Sunday evening to mark their great achievement in finishing top of Division 2 in their league. After a quiet (not really) Xmas lunch in The Scotch Bonnet, the girls were presented with their medals by Sinéad Ahern at an event in the club. Thanks to Sinéad for presenting the medals and for her words of encouragement to the girls. Thanks also to the many parents who turned up to whoop and applaud the players.
MFL2 League Final St Sylvesters 3-08 Lucan Sarsfields 2-07 A deserved league title for this team after a an excellent four point win over an equally impressive and competitive Lucan. Smashing hard hitting game. A late solo goal from substitute Sean Daly gave us a five point cushion and an even later point blank save by Sean O'Connor helped us seal the win.
We're sorry we have to defer the Mentors Appreciation Night due to the funeral of Declan Morris. We will re-arrange as soon as possible as Declan and Carole would insist we celebrate the great work done by all the team mentors and trainers and all of you who make St Sylvesters a great club. Also, the U21 hurling championship semi-final at Kevins is off, will be re-scheduled by the county board.
We are all very shocked and saddened that our great friend and clubman Declan Morris passed away this morning in Beaumont Hospital after a short illness. Declan and Carol are unsung heros at St Sylvesters, helping and supporting in so many ways and it is impossible to say how much Declan will be missed. Our sympathies go out to Carole, Alan, Graham and Derek. Funeral arrangements attached from rip.ie. God Bless Declan, Rest in Peace.
Please see fixture and ticket details below for the Interprovincial Football Championship taking place in Parnell Park this weekend.
U21 FCB QF St Sylvesters 3-16 Whitehall Colmcilles 3-05 Some very slick forward play. particularly Alex White at centre forward with 2-03 I think, and a very mobile half backline with Aaron Lynch and Scappy driving forward, Jack and Archie dominant in the middle.
